Physicians evaluated the use of the 1540-nm erbium glass laser in treating inflammatory acne on the face. The erbium glass laser is already approved to treat inflammatory acne on the back. Physicians treated 15 patients with moderate to severe acne four times at two-week intervals using an erbium glass laser. Physicians treated active lesions and then treated the entire face with a single pass. The results indicate that treatment of inflammatory facial acne with the erbium glass laser is effective and relatively painless.
